Channel 12 Press Release:
November 16, 2017 (Crystal, MN) – Students and staff of St. Raphael Catholic School have donated more than 2,600 items of food that will be provided to area residents in need during the holiday season. St. Raphael Student Council members, who set an initial goal of collecting 1,000 items of food, kicked off the drive 15 days ago. The Council members and the staff at St. Raphael have been overwhelmed by the response.
“The students of St. Raphael School are honored to be able to share this food with those in need,” said Principal Doug Ballinger. “I am very proud of our students, who have displayed great generosity. This kind of outreach and service to our community fits the mission of St. Raphael Catholic School, and impacts not only the recipients, but our students as well.” The items collected will be distributed via Olson Middle School in Minneapolis, and NEAR food shelf in Crystal.
St. Raphael School has held a food drive for more than 20 years. The previous record for items collected was 650.
St. Raphael Catholic School was established in 1952, and currently serves 160 students in preschool through eighth grade. The mission of the school is to nurture the development of each child through faithful Catholic Education that stresses the love of Jesus Christ.
