Our first week of school began with a festive and fun welcome by our teachers and staff. There were streamers, hand clappers, boas, fun hats and lots of great energy and smiles across our playground. In total, we have 168 students with us this year and we intend to grow! Watching students reconnect with friends was wonderful–an indication of the precious bonds that exist throughout our school. Spending time speaking with parents was particularly enjoyable. It was an honor to meet so many of you and I look forward to seeing you again soon!
A special thanks goes out to our custodial staff, our teachers, and our administrative staff for all the hard work over the summer. The finishing touches throughout the school made all the difference. Thank you so much for your dedication!
Our Aug.22 Preschool 3 year olds and Pre-K 4 year olds Orientation was informative for our parents and was well attended. Being able to meet some of our youngest students-to-be was a bonus!
Back to School Night was fun! Seeing our children loading their lockers, reconnecting with teachers, and showing new students the ropes was great to see.
We held our first school Mass this week and our school staff did an excellent job of modeling reverence and serenity in the presence of our Lord. It is a blessing and a benefit to spend our school days in an environment that helps us all to grow and learn to be more like Jesus.
We are excited to have three new teachers with us!
● Our new Kindergarten Teacher, Ms. Caroline Hutcheson comes to us from the University of St. Thomas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Catholic Studies. Caroline has been a familiar face in the school during summer months and we are excited to see her energy and passion for educating children in action.
● Our new grades K-8 Spanish Teacher, Mr. James Clark comes to us from the University of St. Thomas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology with minors in Philosophy and Psychology as well as the University of St. John’s with a MA certificate in Spanish and an MA certificate in Theology with an emphasis on the New Testament. James is a military service veteran dedicated to serving others. I believe he is the right person to take our Spanish program to the next level.
● Our new Music teacher, Mrs. Debra Carlson, comes to us with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the University of St. Thomas with a minor in Piano Performance. Debra has an
accomplished list of classroom music instruction supporting events such as Mary Crowning Mass and Program, Tone-Chimes for Mass and Stations of the Cross, and Spring Music Programs. We look forward to watching Debra develop our students’ musical talents throughout the year.
Calling all parents! As we prepare for a successful academic and faith-filled school year, please know that it will take many hands throughout the year to achieve “team success.” Team success can be defined as the collaboration and cooperation of the three pillars of St. Raphael School: our teachers and staff, our students, and our parents. We invite our parents to be an active part of their child/ren’s experience and sincerely hope see each family involved in school activities and events throughout our year.
I am grateful to God for the privilege of serving as your school principal. I believe the best days of St. Raphael School are just around the corner. If you have questions or suggestions, let’s chat. Your input is important to our shared success.
In His Service,
Doug Ballinger, Principal
