Thurs. 1/28

January 28th, 2010

Homework: math 79B and study spelling words. Report cards are in folders today. Please sign and return the envelope so I know you received it. We were inside for recess again today. The students know they can bring things from home to do on these very cold “inside” days! Next week is Catholic Schools Week. Last weeks’ newsletter had a list of special dress-up days. Monday is: dress as your favorite super-hero! This could be anyone from Superman to Super MOM or DAD! Those who don’t dress up or just have a t-shirt with Superman may still be out of uniform. God Bless You and stay warm!!

Wed. 1/27

January 27th, 2010

Homework: math 78B. Today we made coil pots with clay! The “pottery dude” taught us all to work with clay, and showed us his talents using the pottery wheel. It is quite amazing to watch him work. The pots will be sent home after they are baked, returned, and painted by your children. The clay “dust” on their clothes will wash out easily. Tomorrow is library – please remind your child to return their books. God Bless!

Tuesday 1/26

January 26th, 2010

Homework: math 77B and fact sheet side B. Today is the first day of the third quarter. This morning we discussed making positive choices and how this affects our school day, school work, and homework. A new quarter is an excellent time to change negative behaviors and habits into positive ones! We discussed ideas, such as making good choices who to sit by on the carpet, and negative choices, such as copying the actions of another child who is not following directions or rules. Each person is responsible for their own self and cannot be blaming others for their actions or words. We are all children of a very loving, forgiving God. Judging others is not our responsibility – He will take care of that! God Bless and guide all parents as we teach and care for the children!

Thurs. 1/21

January 21st, 2010

Homework: 76B. Practice spelling words. We made beautiful snowflakes today!

Wed. 1/20

January 20th, 2010

Homework: math 75B and spelling worksheet. Fr. Hogan visited our classroom today. Ask your child if they remember his”real” first name! (Hint: it’s not Father!) Tomorrow is library – please remember books. Magazine drive has officially begun. Information was sent home before Christmas break and will be in the newsletter. Thank you!

Tuesday 1/19

January 19th, 2010

Homework: math 74B and spelling worksheet. The spelling words for this week are on the worksheet. We have been reading and discussing Bible Stories. Ask your child which ones we have read and how Jesus performed a miracle. Officer Olson from the Crystal Police Dept. came in to talk about safety. It was a good reminder for all of us to make good choices about safety for our children and ourselves. Looking ahead to February, anyone interested in planning a Valentine’s Day party on Friday, Feb. 12th – 12:45 to 1:50 (end of the day) please let me know. Thank you and God Bless!

Thursday 1/14

January 14th, 2010

Homework: math 73B, study spelling words for test.

Wed. 1/13

January 13th, 2010

Homework: math fact worksheet. Practice spelling words! Tomorrow is sharing for all – whatever they would like. We worked very hard today in math, reading, and writing. It was tiring for some but all did well and I was proud of their effort. A few reminders: there is no running in the classroom – ever; manners must always be used, at the very least please and thank you – always, always, always; keep your hands to yourself – your friends have their own hands to deal with. Playing outside in the snow is fun but keeping track of our hats and mittens can be difficult! Wresting is a sport, not an activity for the playground or classroom during a school day. God forgives us when we forget the rules – others are not so understanding. Kids are special – and so are parents – God Bless you all!

Tuesday 1/12

January 12th, 2010

Homework: math 71B and both sides of fact sheet. Today we practiced measuring (inches) and drawing line segments with a ruler. We read a book about Martin Luther King, Jr., and discussed treating one another with respect and fairness. Spelling words have the long “a” sound, so please practice them at home. The words are: game, came, take, make, late, gate; all, walk, flag, black; bonus word penguins! Outside recess for the past two days has been wonderful! We will continue to look for misplaced items, such as shoes, hats, mittens, etc. Have a great night and God Bless!
