The children used colorful Halloween pom-poms for sorting and counting this morning to strengthen simple math skills.  The children have their letter ‘Pp’ paper in their backpacks from this morning and we practiced positional words by using Halloween stamps.

What a GREAT day !

Remember on Thursday the children should come dressed in their costumes.  We will have a fun (yet, low key) Halloween party filled with yummy things to eat and games to play.

Have a wonderful evening with your family.

The children are enjoying our Halloween Shop.  It is so much fun to watch their creativity take them into this world of make believe.

This morning we made a pumpkin patch while counting out the pumpkins.  The objective was to count one to one correspondence through five. Many of the children counted beyond five and thus have more pumpkins than the goal of five.

Remember our Halloween Party will be this Thursday for the 3’s.  The children should come in their costumes.  We will have some party games, do a craft and have some yummy treats.

Have a wonderful evening with your family.

Another wonderful day in PreK.  Today the children enjoyed another Music class with Mrs. Jones.  We had our pictures taken and Austin’s dad brought in a wonderful, healthy snack of fresh fruit cups for us to enjoy.  AND what was so exciting about the snack was that some of the children were mentioning fruit they hadn’t tried before (or so they said)  – blue berries, white grapes instead of the red, cut pineapples, and the different types of melons How fun to introduce something new.  We learned a scarecrow rhyme, made a classroom decoration, and played in the Halloween Shop.  Ah, to be four again!

Enjoy the evening with your family.

MONDAY 10/19/09

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful and rested week off.  Today the children had computer class. Mr. Hartwell had the children working on a program that reinforced counting skills as well as strengthening ‘mouse’ skills.  It was great fun!

The children painted today and we read and colored a booklet about Autumn leaves.

Remember we have pictures on Wednesday. Our time slot is at ten.

We have a Halloween party coming up on 10/30. The children are invited to come to school dressed in their  costumes.  We ask that all weapons of any sort connected with the costume is left at home. Please be aware of the fact that the  children will be parading through the Primary wing  classrooms  and on to the Office.  I say this to let you know that full masks might be a problem when climbing the stairs and walking through the classrooms.   In addition to the parade, the children will play a few Halloween themed games , do a crafty type project (no painting – I promise ) and have a wonderful snack being prepared by Austin’s dad.

Enjoy the evening with your family.

Today the little ones practiced counting to four.  We read  ‘Apples and Pumpkins’ by Anne Rockwell.  This story is a tale of a wonderful Fall adventure of a family going to the farm to find the perfect pumpkin and to buy apples for Halloween.  We followed this reading with an activity of numbered apple trees which we put in order and then  made a headband to show our knowledge in counting.

Remember no school for our three year old class this coming Thursday.

See everyone next Tuesday!

Enjoy the long weekend with your family.

THURSDAY 10/8/09 3′S

This morning the children worked on the letter ‘Ff” recognition.  We went fishing catching a variety of colorful, magnetic fish.  As we pulled our fish from the river, we had to name the color and the written number ( 1,2, or 3).  We also strengthen  our small muscle control in coloring a gold fish. We practiced our ABC’s using a Leaf Frog Refrig. activity.

We continue to work on the importance of sneezing into our elbow and the use of tissues to prevent germs from being passed among our friends.

I will see everyone next Tuesday.  Remember no class on Thursday (10/15)  morning.

Enjoy the  weekend with your family,

Today we only had three of our little friends with us.   We prayed for our classmates who are sick and hope they get better soon.

The children are bringing home their ‘Ff’ poster that they completed in class.  We learned how the words ‘friends’ and ‘fall’ begin with the letter ‘Ff’. We used our knowledge of the fall colors to color leaves for our classroom  tree.  We also played with play dough this morning. The children rolled the play dough out into the shape of snakes. Then we measured the ’snakes’ to see which one was longest, shortest and which one was in between the two. Then we used our snake shapes to form as many letters and numbers that we knew.  What a wonderful morning.

Remember the Rake-a-Thon coming up this month.  Also remember no school next week on Thursday for our 3’s.

Enjoy the evening with your family.

What a wonderful, busy day in Pre-K today.  The children had Tech instruction with Mr. Hartwell.  Mr. Hartwell had the program ‘ Tux Paint’ ready for us.  This program provides the children with options for creating pictures of their design. It was great to see the success they are experiencing with the control of the mouse. We were drawing our favorite animals.  Back in the classroom, we painted the trunks of the apple trees that we will be making,  began working on a ‘take home’ visual of the  ‘Five Little Monkeys’, AND we set up the schedule of the weekend visits when Curious George will be  COMING TO YOUR HOME!    These dates are as follows:                                                                                       Isabelle;  October 9th,    Madison;  October 23rd,   Rylee; October 30th,   Ty;  November 6th,  Owen; November 13th,                                         Austin: November 20th,  Jeffery;  December 4th,   Harrison;  December 11th.           The children will have more than one opportunity to take George home for weekend visists.

A couple of reminders:    1) Please support our school wide Rake-a-Thon      2) Next week is a short week for our little ones – no school on Wednesday through Friday.        3) We have a new system at  door number 5 – a door bell as been installed for our use.  If you arrive at the door and I am not there, please ring the door bell which is mounted to the right of the doors.  This procedure will further help to keep our youngsters safe.  Thank you for your support.

Enjoy the evening with your family.
