October 27-30 – no school for students on Oct. 31

I will send home a paper copy of this blog Monday due to changes on class address sheets I want everyone to see.  Shroeder – take off . after the letter u   -  Heckt – new e-mail – kheckt@metropolitanfmc.com - Noah Tesmar lives in New Hope, not Crystal.  The Rake -a- Thon was a wonderful experience.  Everyone felt good about the service project they joyfully completed.  Pledges can still be collected, next turn-in day for money is October 30.   A couple of reminders:  1) all math sheets need to be corrected and signed M-TH (a happy face, star, sticker, whatever is also fine), 2) Highlights Journals (highlights of activities in room 12 from the past week) come home on Tuesdays, please read and write back, they epecially enjoy it when you ask them a question, 3) you can check your child’ s AR test records by going to SRS Community, technology, AR program student, enter their username and password, view tests, 4)  go to my blogs on Mondays -much important information can be found there –  SRS Community, staff blogs, Mrs. Scholl, 5) students can complete research they didn’t finish in class by going to my DELICIOUS site – SRS Community, student resources, Mrs. Scholl.  Students may bring Halloween treats for their classmates on Thursday and wear orange, black, or Halloween t-shirts or sweatshirts.  Spanish Test- Wednesday, October 29 on lessons 1-3.   They have their notebooks which includes their wordlists.  Parents, please practice with your child, all students who have a signed note that a parent reviewed with them will receive 5 extra points on their test.  This is the last week of the first quarter, report cards will be coming home next week.  They did a wonderful job at their Mass.  October Home Reading Logs are due this week, if lost, write a note with about how much they read. 

Monday – math l. #36 – counting quarters – gym

writing – finish Saint story in class, or at home if needs be - due Tuesday morning

reading – “The Knight Who Was Afraid of the Dark” – writing about their own fears and how they handle them, compound words and alliteration- handwriting cursive b,h,f,k

religion – God’s love never changes – no test this week, working on and off with getting prepared for field trip

science – continue with slow changes to the earth, erosion and weathering

Tuesday – math l. #37 – finding 1/2 of a set of objects – music and library

ss – Junior Achievement – last week, opened a business – this week working with banking, like pay checks

science – fast changes like volcanoes – study chapter C56-C57, vocabulary, and packet for test tomorrow

writing - work on ABC book, it is due Thursday

Wednesday – math l. # 38 – adding 3 or more single digit nuimbers - Spanish Test - art – remember to send in Rake-a -Thon money and October Home Reading Logs tomorrow

religion - Jesus dies on a cross

science – test on C2 – landforms

Thursday – spelling test – gym and music – Halloween Party – Rake -a – Thon pledges and October Home Reading Logs are due – Halloween art project

math – drawing pictures and writing number sentences about story problems

October 20-24

Encourage your child to continue getting pledges this week. Remember to bring their rakes to Family Fun Night and put them outside the door. Our field trip to Vatican Splendors will be November 12 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm. We will need 7-8 chaperones who have been through the Virtus training, or we won’t be able to go. It is our class mass on Friday, 3rd graders will be reading, carrying gifts, and ushering.

Monday – math l.#32 estimating, measuring, and drawing segments using centimeters- gym

reading – begin anthology B with the theme of challenges – “Chin Chang and the Dragon’s Dance” -skills of characterization, similes and metaphors

religion – saints’ days and patron saints

writing – begin work on a 2 week project to write an ABC book – students will chose a subject and write 2 facts about each of 26 topics for each letter of the alphabet – may need to do some research at home

science – begin chapter c2 – forces that shape our land

Tuesday – math l. #33 adding a multiple of 10 to a number using mental computation – music & library

religion – body of Christ

social studies – Junior Achievement – newspapers

Wednesday – math l. # 34 – ordering 3 digit numbers – Spanish & art

religion – Our Lady of Guadalupe – study chapter 9 and faith words for test tomorrow – they are working on their patron saints facts

science – slow changes to the land like weathering and erosion

Thursday – math l.# 35 adding 5 & 6 – gym & music – dinner at Arby’s and Family Fun Night – remember rakes

religion – test- chapter 9

Friday – mass (ours) – spelling test – Wear Rake – a -Thon t-shirts – dress to work on yards after Mass

writing – finishing a story starter about Halloween

religion – begin chapter 6 – Death and Resurrection of Jesus

October 13-15

 

 

 

 

Picture Person starts this week for 3 weeks. Halloween – traditionally 3rd graders don’t wear costumes – they can wear Halloween shirts, orange and/or black shirts on Halloween. Moms are in charge of planning our 3 parties. The class is divided into 1/3’s according to the alphabet and the first 1/3 will be called to send supplies and treats for the Halloween party. Rake-a-thon t-shirts worn on Mondays – get pledges. No spelling lesson, working on spelling skills. I am sorry about the blog last week, not sure what happened. Please e-mail me if there is nothing by Tuesday, and I can check it out.

Monday – math L 30 – Adding 3 and 4 – gym -Bus safety with #281 bus drivers

reading – they will be reading a short book – “The Cactus Flower Bakery” – work on vocabulary and write a question for classmates to answer

Science – fossils – activity about learning how fossils are buried

Religion – working on saints – no test this week

Tuesday – Math – L. #. #31 – adding multiples of 10 using mental math, estimating sum of two-digit numbers – music & library & Junior Achievement

Science – Study packet, vocabulary and chapter C1 for test tomorrow- review p. C28-C29

Wednesday Picture Day – wear nice clothes and bring money in envelope – Spanish & art

religion – continue to work on saints – start planning for our mass on Oct. 24

science – test on C1 – video about forces that change the earth as intro. to next science chapter on landforms

October 6-10

I will put a conference day and time reminder in the purple Friday folders.  There  will be a Spanish test on Wednesday.  Sister will give each student an extra 5 points if they bring a note in from a parent saying they studied with their child.  Students wear rake-a -thon t-shirts each Monday.  No spelling pre-test this week, it is a review week.  Friday is first turn – day for rake-a-thon. $50.00 earns a jump in the inflatable bouncer on Monday:)
