February 25-29

Monday – math l. #87 – making an array, writing number sentences for an array – art & Spanish

reading – “Kate Shelley and the Midnight Express” an adventure story

social studies – citizens in action – study chapter 8, packet(p. 42,43,45), and vocabulary for test tomorrow

religion – Mass parts- Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist

writing – demonstration presentations of How-To papers

Tuesday – math l.# 88 – estimating and finding the area of a rectangle – library & gym

religion – tabernacle and the Blessed Sacrament – preparation to visit the Adoration Chapel tomorrow

social studies – review and test on chapter 8

writing – last of the How-To presentations -they have done very well with their writing steps

Wednesday – no math, spelling, reading, or music due to all morning all-school retreat – theme- The Great Commandment- love – Father Fusare, the missionary priest will be talking to the students, a visit to adoration chapel and Holy Spirit Chapel where Father Juettner and Sister Therese Ann will lead them in a meditation prayer, they will be making a cross which will remind them to pray for their pen-pal sisters in Kenya (they will write to them after Easter and tell them about their prayers for them), modern day parable video”The Touch of the Master’s Hand” (ask them about this powerful video)

religion – Study chapter 16 and faith words for test tomorrow

science – begin science unit on energy – it is the ability to cause change

writing – learn 2 more forms of poetry – limerick and Haiku – choose a topic and begin writing a Haiku poem about nature

Thursday – math l. #89 – finding the sum of 3 addends – gym & music

reading – skill – finding the plot of a story

religion – test on chapter 16

science- sources of energy and how it is stored as fuel or food

Friday – Mass – technology -send February Home Reading logs (or a note if it is lost)back to school

religion – stations

science – how stored energy is used in batteries

writing – finish Haiku poems

math activity – determining the likelihood of an event and determining the fairness of a game

Februay 19-22

Just a reminder to send bags and newspaper or tissue for your student to wrap up their clay masks. Tempura paint can be used on them.

Tuesday – math l.#84 – identify the number of days in each month and days in a year – library and gym

reading – “Flamingo Roundup” a nonfiction story – skill is preview from headings and captions

religion – 2nd week of Lent – be a cheerful giver- hope you see some of this at home:)

social studies – a capital in Senegal – sister city of Washington D. C. study packet and vocab for test on chapter 7 tomorrow

Wednesday – math l. #85 – multiply by 0 and 5, identify the commutative law of multiplication – music

religion – 3rd week in Lent – praying alone and together

social studies – review p. 182 – test- share their president research with the class

writing – continue with adjectives – comparative (smaller) and superlative (smallest) forms and How- To paper
Thursday – math l. #86 – identifying and solving larger – smaller – difference problems (very challenging) gym & music

religion – begin chapter 16 Eucharist – good groundwork for our retreat next Wednesday on God’s love for us and our love for Him and others

social studies – begin a short chapter 8 on citizens make communities work

Friday – Mass and spelling test -

religion – stations

social studies – study skills – research in the library

writing – those who are ready can begin doing their demonstration talk- begin working on adverbs

February 11-15

We’ll be having our Valentine’s party on Thursday afternoon. Students may start bringing their cards today. Thursday is red/pink day,  it is necessary to bring $1.00 to be out of uniform in those colors. What they wear must be mostly red, for example,  jeans and a shirt that is mostly red.  I had a few issues on the last green and white day  with 2 students wearing just one white stripe on the pants and calling it a white item.

reading -”Chang’s Paper Pony’ is a story about miners during the Gold Rush

religion – Jewish wedding traditions

writing – learn about research in the library with encyclopedias-they have chosen a president’s name and have several questions to research about his family and presidency

social studies – the nation develops – chapter 7

Tuesday – math l. #81 – finding square roots of a perfect square – library (will work in an encyclopedia)& gym

social studies – Our nation’s capital today – monuments

religion – Jesus helps a married couple in Cana

Wednesday – math l.# 82 – adding decimals – music in the computer lab

reading – compare and contrast Chang’s time and modern times – interpret a graph

social studies – work in the computer lab on my DELICIOUS presidents’ sites to continue answering questions about their president

religion – Jesus’ miracles today – signs of God’s love- study chapter 15 and faith words for test tomorrow

Thursday – math l. #83 – reading and showing the temperature on Celsius scale – gym & music in the computer lab

religion- test on chapter 15

Valentine’s Day party

Friday – spelling test – Mass – technology

social studies – geography skill – grid map

religion – stations

writing -How -to -Writing – they will do a demonstration speech next week -it will help them to sequence using order words and actions words (verbs) – they can make something, a craft or food for example, or teach us something

February 4-8

Valentine’s Day is approaching, we’ll have a party on the 14th. Parents will be contacting the last 1/3 of the class to send supplies. Third graders may bring cards for the whole class 29 students minus themselves. Please have them sign their names inside, but do not put students’ names on the envelopes, they will be dropping them into bags. January Home Reading Logs are still due from a few students, if lost, please send a note as to about how much they read. Thursday is last turn-in day for Magazine Drive. Thursday will be the State of the School address at 7:00, see you there. Wednesday we will be watching the movie “Game Plan, ” which they earned for filling up the game Connect Four by being quiet workers.

writing – adjectives, Highlights Journals come home – parents please write back to your child

Wednesday – Mass, Ash Wednesday – no math – music

religion – begin making station books – we’ll be praying the stations around the school classroom doors

social studies – Constitution and establishment of a 3 branch democratic government

Thursday – math – L. #79 – selecting coins for a given amount – gym & music reading

reading – words with suffixes

social studies – study chapter #6, vocabulary, and packet for test tomorrow

writing – journal topics for the date

Friday – Mass and technology – stations around the school using new station books they made

social studies – test on chapter 6

religion – begin chapter 15 – Scripture Story – wedding at Cana

writing – choose a president and begin gathering data about them at various websites on my DELICIOUS site
