Don’t miss the two art exhibits at The Walker Art Center showing Frida Kahlo and at the Mpls. Institute of Art showing Georgia O’Keefe. Both are fantastic. The exhibit will be here until January.
Artist of the Month -Egyptian Art
Gr. 2 – finished a 3-D jack-o-lantern last week. Today they will begin a farm scene on cloth. I will share some childhood memories of growing up on a farm.
Gr. 3 – are working on a still life of sunflowers. We discussed Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ and a bit of his life.
Gr.4 -finished their ‘Nearikas’, yarn pictures telling a story (from Mexico). They are beginning a cornucopia in an impressionistic style. They are presently in the showcase.
G.5 – are working on paper mache animals make from cylinders. We are almost ready to paint them.
Gr. 6- are working on a parabola. This will look like an optical illusion when it’s finished. They learned about Bridget Riley an Op artist.
Gr. 7- are beginning a drawing of a Christmas card using a grid method. The artist Chuck Close used this method. It is a way of drawing something detailed to almost identical proportion. ‘Frank’ a painting of his work is at the MIA.
Gr. 8- are working on a pastel still life of 3 objects. Next we’ll begin a pointillism picture useing tonal value. That will complete the drawing unit.
